My Teacher?

Ma prof ?

A dancer in a classroom

Audience // Middle & High school (from 11 to 18 years)

Duration // 30 mins – with an extra 30 mins for discussion

This solo dance act portrays and embodies the professor character, which surprises students by re-enacting all the rituals of the teacher’s relation to students; of their pedagogy, and of life in the classroom.

In middle and high school, the classroom’s atmosphere is often sober, with little display and furniture… Bodies take up more space, and it feels denser.
The students’ attention is very intense: they detail, they scrutinise, they are embarrassed, moved, in empathy, impressed, intimidated, extremely touched.

The dance crosses a wide amplitude, rhythm and dynamics. We invite the students to pay attention to the momentum, energy, use of space, form, and also details such as a hand, a back… In the show Ma prof?, image, music and performance makes us take a step back and offers a different view from the social norms of being a professor, where we can unveil his mask and access the complexity of his being.

The classrooms are equipped with a video projector, so this teacher’s story interacts with his board and includes a composition of drawings projected onto the board. The dancer is sometimes in an abstract relationship with the image, one responding to the other graphically.
The dance shifts between an everyday body to a precise, rhythmic and more formal choreography. The movement embodies the professor’s thoughts in order to help him better define, address, and convey his vision.
The drawing on the whiteboard comes alive and translates the teacher’s spirit, mood, and emotion. It takes notes, it draws, and interacts with the audience.

We offer to prolong our encounter with the students through a dance. In all our proposals, we focus on individuality and to their creative power. Each person will invent their own response according to the game that we propose.

A workshop will be carried out in the classroom, as it is a fantastic playground to work and discover dance without being too uncomfortable and having the impression of being watched by others. Everyone will move at their own pace and in their own way while having fun.

We will discover together how to put our daily life into movement and choreography.

This project can also be transformed into a video-dance.

Contact the company to define a project together that you want to put in place.
